Termessos National Park
This was the site of the ancient city of Termessos that was founded by the Solims who lived in the Psidia Region. The ancient fortified city rising 1050 m above the sea level is one of the most spectacular ruined cities in Turkey, primarily due to its stunning location. It is situated on the steep slopes of Gulluk Mountain, 34km north-west of Antalya in a valley hidden between mountains and can be reached via the Antalya Korkuteli highway.
The heyday of Termessos came with the time of the Roma Empire. What is left from that period are the city walls, Hadrian's Gate, King's Road, gymnasium, odeon, agora, theatre, tombs, and drainage system. The Termessos National Park, in which the ruins of ancient Termessos are located, spreads at about 30 km length along the Antalya Korkuteli highway. The park, which is covered by wild flora, is of unusual beauty and is home to typical Mediterranean vegetation sheltering endangered wild creatures such as fallow deer, golden eagle, and mountain goats.
