Goreme National Park
Surrounding the village of Goreme that lies 12km east of Nevsehir and in the heart of Cappadocia, in Central Anatolia, Goreme National Park is among the most liked and visited Turkish natural landmarks. Valleys with gorgeous scenery and a mixture of ancient pigeon houses and even more ancient rock-cut churches fan out from all around the village.
These valleys are also home to the world-famous conical-shaped and eroded rock formations of Cappadocia, known as Fairy Chimneys. In addition to this incredible scenery, there are also important Byzantine churches from the rise of Christianity, as well as remains of chapels, churches, halls, and monk cells dating back to 3-4 century AD. The frescos and religious decorations that have remained reflect the gradual development of Christian religion, as well as the lifestyle and culture of that period. Once you get to Goreme National Parks, you shouldn’t miss the Goreme Open-Air Museum that displays some particularly spectacular rock formations formed from volcanic tuff. Trekking routes are clearly marked around the park. In addition, there are many pensions, hotels, and restaurants in the area, especially in Goreme village.
