Cleopatra Island

Cleopatra Island is located within 12 km drive through farmland and pinewoods to the shores of a small bay, the Gulf of Gokova, where small wooden Turkish fishing boats wait for visitors to take them to the beautiful island. The Gokova's mountainous Turquoise Coast has been famous for years with its rich history and secluded bays.

Cleopatra Island, lying at a 20-minute boat ride from this coast, is also famous with its history. Legends say that the unique organic sand, made entirely of seashells, was brought by ships all the way from the Red Sea especially for Anthony and Cleopatra's honeymoon pleasures. In addition, legends claim that Anthony gave this region to Cleopatra as a gift for their wedding. Indeed, this region is a special one, mainly due to its special sand. Cleopatra Island is strictly protected by the government to prevent any sand being exported from the beach. On the island itself you will have the opportunity to spend dreamy hours swimming in crystal clear azure water or take a walk inland to the small Roman amphitheater, towers and church.
